As a Raleigh Family Photographer, I am absolutely spoiled by all of the beautiful locations we have nearby. Whether you want beautiful, open, grassy fields or the super trendy urban jungle, we can make it happen! However, there is an option that not a lot of people think to consider, your very own home! Here are 5 reasons that an in-home family session may be the perfect option for your family!

Pros of Choosing an In-Home Family Session:

1. Comfort and Familiarity:

You will be more comfortable in familiar surroundings; that's just how we humans work. Being in your own home allows your family members to relax and be themselves, resulting in more natural and candid photographs. There is no pressure to get kids to do something specific for photographs, they are generally happy to get to play, spend time with their parents and show off all of their cool things! Tantrums are sometimes inevitable, don’t we ALL know, and at home you can just let them take their natural course. Temper tantrums can make for some really fun photos, especially to pull out at their wedding someday 😂

2. Meaningful and Personal:

In-home sessions showcase your family's unique personality, style, and taste. Your home is a reflection of who you are, and incorporating it into your family portraits adds a personalized touch that you can cherish for years to come. The things in your home are a part of your family's story. Everyone has sentimental items, and things that they love (especially our kiddos) in their home and photographs are a great way to remember them, too. No one else will have photos just like yours and it will capture what your family looks like when “no one is looking”.

3. Convenience and Accessibility:

With an in-home session, you eliminate the stress of traveling to a specific location, finding parking, and dealing with potential weather-related obstacles. We all know how hot and more importantly, how humid it can get around here in the summer! Holding your session at home is a convenient option, especially for families with young children or individuals with limited mobility. Want to bring the grandparents over? Let’s do it!

4. Our Furry Friends

Organizing family portraits can be stressful enough, but adding in our furry (or scaly or feathered) friends tends to add to the stress. You could be afraid of how to wrangle kids AND a dog at the park. Having an in-home family session allows your pets to be a natural part of the session. They are a big part of the family and deserve to be included, even if they just wander in and out as they please. Just like everyone else, being at home will allow them to relax and be themselves as well.

5. Capturing Everyday Moments:

In-home sessions allow a photographer to capture everyday moments that might go unnoticed in a traditional studio setting. From cooking together in the kitchen, doing science experiments, to playing board games in the living room, these candid moments are often the most magical and will bring back those feelings when you look at your photos in the years to come.

So, what will it be? The great outdoors? The Urban Jungle? Or the comfort and familiarity of your very own home. As your Raleigh Family Photographer I am always up for an adventure and ready to meet you wherever tugs on your heartstrings the most!
